Your Responsibility
The Secondary Learning Support Teacher’s Assistant provides essential assistance in supporting students with diverse learning needs in grades 6-12. This role involves organizing assessments, collaborating with teachers, supporting students in testing situations, and assisting the Learning Support team in implementing accommodations and interventions.
Your duties
- Assessment Coordination: Organize and manage assessments for students with learning support needs ensuring accommodations (e.g., extra time, assistive technology) are in place
- Teacher Collaboration: Communicate regularly with teachers to schedule assessments, collect and return the assessments to the appropriate teachers
- Student Support: Assist students in testing situations by providing guidance, reading instructions, scribing when necessary, and ensuring a calm and supportive environment
- Team Collaboration: Work closely with the Learning Support team to implement individualized support strategies and accommodations for students
- Documentation: Maintain accurate records of student accommodations, assessment schedules and other required documentation for this role
- Assistive Technology: Support students in using assistive technology tools for learning and assessment purposes.
Your profile
- Experience working with secondary students in a learning support role, preferably in an international or secondary school setting
- Strong organizational skills to manage assessments and student accommodations effectively
- Excellent communication skills to liaise with teachers, students, the Learning Support team, and other stakeholders
- Ability to provide academic and emotional support to students with diverse needs
- Familiarity with accommodations such as extra time, alternative testing environments, and assistive technology
- Flexibility and adaptability to support students in various subjects and classroom settings
- Experience with word editing programs such as Microsoft Word and other scripting software such as Google Docs.
- Experience with Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS) or Universal Design for Learning (UDL)
- Knowledge of learning disabilities, intervention strategies and working with students who struggle with mental health
